I am Robert O’Neil, Principal Lawyer and Founder of ROC Legal. I established the firm in 2017 to give people direct access to senior, practical and determined representation in estate disputes and compensation claims. My approach is consistent in every matter: I work to understand the evidence early, identify the pressure points, and build the case properly from the start.
Before founding ROC Legal, I worked in law enforcement, insurance defence and plaintiff advocacy. That has shaped how I practise. I know how evidence is gathered, how claims are assessed, how institutions think, and how disputes are either resolved or fought. In compensation claims, I understand how insurers weigh risk and test evidence. In estate litigation, I know the legal questions rarely stand alone — they often sit beside grief, family history and deeply personal ideas about fairness, duty and intention.
Estate litigation
I act across the full range of estate disputes: contesting and defending wills, family provision claims, questions of testamentary capacity, undue influence and suspicious circumstances, informal wills and rectification, probate disputes and caveats, executor and beneficiary disputes, and broader estate administration disputes involving delay, misconduct, conflict of interest or a failure to account.
I act for people on both sides. I represent claimants who have been left without adequate provision, and I defend estates against claims that should not succeed. I guide executors and administrators who need direction, and I act against them where they have fallen short of their duties. That breadth is critical, because estate litigation draws on succession law, probate practice, equity, trusts, medical and financial evidence, and court strategy all at once — a good estate lawyer needs a command of every part of it.
Compensation
My practice at ROC Legal is focused on delivering expert representation in motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, public liability, and superannuation and TPD claims. Having spent the formative years of my career on the defence side with an international insurer, I approach every case with a tactical depth that only comes from having worked within the industry itself. I have seen firsthand how insurers assess risk, build their arguments, and attempt to minimise compensation entitlements.
This inside perspective allows me to prepare your claim with the insurer’s likely objections already in mind. By anticipating their strategies before they are deployed, I help my clients avoid the common missteps that can weaken a case — building a body of evidence that neutralises defence arguments from the outset.
My transition from the corporate defence sector to serving as a Branch Manager at a major national plaintiff firm solidified my mission to provide high-level, relentless advocacy for the people who need it most. ROC Legal was born from that conviction. - Master of Laws in Wills & Estates — College of Law, focused on succession law, estate litigation and estate administration

- Graduate Fellow of the College of Law — recognising sustained performance across the entire Masters program
